Eight Ways to be At the Abode
1. Sunday Visits
Every Sunday at 10:15am we offer a Universal Worship service which honors all the world’s sacred traditions through scripture, attunement, chants, songs and dance. A glorious brunch follows (there is a charge of $8/person). Many people choose to stay for the afternoon, visit with community residents, take refreshing walks in nature, and enjoy all that the Abode has to offer. Sunday evenings at 7pm we offer our Sunday evening class, which explore the Sufi teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan.
2. Individual Retreats
For those wishing to go into solitude, cloaked in silence, to meditate, pray, rejuvenate or contemplate life, the Abode offers a retreat center. Trained guides are available to assist in this deep inner journey read more
In our refinished Shaker house “Mughni”, come and enjoy time by yourself, with friends, or visiting the community. The Abode is located at the base of Mount Lebanon, NY. A conference and retreat center, the Abode offers travelers a unique opportunity to stop, breathe, relax and commune with nature in settings of breathtaking beauty and sacred serenity. Our guest services include acupuncture, massage and bodywork, so please inquire at the Programs Office, to help make your stay a truly holistic experience for your body, mind and soul. 4. Volunteers and Work Exchange
We welcome all skilled and unskilled worker “bees” to come and help with the many tasks here at the Abode. Come for as little or as long as you like. Please contact the Programs Office for more information.
5. Khidmat Program
The Khidmat Program is a wonderful way to experience the Abode through a combination of spiritual service and study. Twenty-five hours of service in a variety of outdoor and indoor concentrations combined with ten hours of spiritual study offer opportunity for growth and development. Each spring we search for a dedicated group of people to help us open the Mountain Conference Center. There are countless opportunities to build, clean, laugh, learn, cook, love, share, pray and wash dishes! 8. Residency
The Abode houses the primary Residential Community for the Sufi Order International. You may become a resident at the Abode short or long term. More information is available from this site, or call the Office Administrator @ 518-794-8090.
